Eureka! I finally found the big red carpet! The one you see in all the coverages with the celebrities and the big Tribeca Film Festival labeled tent. Turns out it’s not at either of the press theaters but the Brooklyn Municipality Community College (BMCC). After another day of attending press screenings, I had my first true red carpet experience.
I went to BMCC expecting the red carpet for Boulevard to be similar to the event where I photographed Spike Lee. Surprisingly this carpet was about 10 times longer and had maybe 20 times more press. I asked some fellow photographers why there was such a crowd. They informed me that every festival is different and who will show up at a Tribeca premiere will change on a dime. Supposedly, Katie Holmes was to come down the carpet tonight and a still yet unknown celebrity. This mystery was enough to stir up a mob.
Taking what I learned from before, I found the Haydenfilms spot and set myself up. After waiting for nearly hour, people started arriving. At the front of the line was the surprise guest, Emma Watson! It was a madhouse, flashing lights and voices shouting, “Emma!” everywhere. I got a few good pictures. Here’s my favorite.
I managed to talk to Boulevard director Dito Montiel about his experience working with Robin Williams and Bob Odenkirk. The most frustrating part was when he mentioned not being able to discuss Breaking Bad with Bob since it was still filming at that point. It was all an exciting time. Tomorrow is my final day. I can’t wait.
