“Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage;” four more heroes of the massive Marvel Universe. Not as widely known as the Avengers, but these crimefighters are getting their own chance on small screen.
According to Variety, four new live-action series will be released on Netflix. Set to premiere in 2015, Marvel Television will develop the series leading to a miniseries event all of which will unfold over several years. All the series are set to take place in New York, and “Netflix has committed to a minimum of four 13 episode series plus a culminating miniseries event.” This is yet another foray into the television world for Netflix and Marvel.
What’s so striking about the news is that Disney chose Netflix over ABC. The channel hosted Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s first TV series, to widespread praise. Unfortunately, ratings for the show have diminished over the weeks. Perhaps Disney has more confidence in Netflix distribution. Iron Man and The Avengers are extremely popular on streaming these days so they may see more marketability there.
