We live in the era of instant entertainment and it shows. Recent research proves that more people are opting for Netflix and it’s streaming services instead of HBO or Showtime.
According to Variety, a recent report by the research firm NPD group found that the “[t]otal U.S. households that subscribe to HBO, Showtime, Starz and other premium TV channels declined by 6 percentage points over an 18-month span.” At the same time, “subscriptions to Netflix and others… rose 4 percentage points.”
The report does not clarify whether the percentage that dropped their premium channels also picked a streaming service. However, it is growing more and more common for consumers to choose to stream their movies and shows due to the cheaper price.
Variety reports that as of the end of the third quarter of 2013, Netflix had 31.1 million U.S. streaming subscribers.
